Hey, itīs Christmas eve down here. My tico friend Billy was trying to explain how christmas is celebrated down here but I didnīt understand too much, I think it was my first long conversation in Spanish since Iīve been back from Cuba where I spent most of the time speaking English with Dan or canadians. I found out yesterday that all the buses to Nicaragua are full till the 31st, Iīm thinking Iīll try to leave on new years day till the 6th, that ought to give me enough time to see Granada and the two big islands on lake Nicaragua. This town has a very different feel to it since so many of my friends are gone. I sat at the central park yesterday like Iīve done damn near every day this semester waiting for someone I knew to walk by until I realized that almost all of them are back in the states or traveling around here. Kinda melancholy, but I guess thatīs life. Weīre already working on prelimary plans to meet up in Vegas sometime in the coming year, fate would have it that Vegas is the most centralized town among all of us on the west coast.
Iīm heading into San Jose tonight to this place called Backpackerīs Hostel to cook dinner, should be a lot of fun, it makes me miss cooking. Iīm looking forward to busting out my host momīs gallo pinto recipe when I get down to Chile. I just realized that if I were in the states right now, Iīd be stoked about skateboarding tonight since christmas eve, christmas day, and thanksgiving are the three best nights of the year for skateboarding since most all the cops have the night off. I might have to break out the board for a late night session tonight.
