Two Words

Bad Ass

It is good to see somebody pushing the envelope, not just waiting for something to happen. He did what many thought was impossible back in 1986 when he built the first plane to fly nonstop around the world without refueling and it looks like he is doing it again.

Here is another link with a really cool picture in it, if i remembered how to show pictures on the main site i would, but i guess you just have to check out the article to see what i am talking about.

For some reason i really want to go watch The Right Stuff right now, that is one of the best movies ever, i can almost hear the theme song right now. And then there is the line, "Who's the best pilot you ever saw?" I will leave it up to the interested reader to figure out the answer.

Homework weekend

I had a systems test on friday, it went pretty bad. All the problems that were like homework problems i nailed perfectly, all the ones that weren't, i didn't. I guess that is just how it goes, maybe 65 out of 100 is what i am predicting, maybe 60, it depends how lenient he is. The good thing is that 55% of our grade is in the last two weeks of the class, split between the final and a project, so i could still pull an A somehow i think.

I did homework all weekend, i was going to go hiking yesterday but it looked like it was going to start snowing, and then it did, so oh well. Also i am reading A Rumor of War, by Philip Caputo for wt, it is pretty good. I have seen a lot of movies and tv shows and read a lot of books about Vietnam, but none of them really talked about the people, and what they thought about. This one is pretty interesting, seeing as how we may be entering into something like it, or we not be getting even close at all. I don't know, i am not much for critical analysis of literature but i really like the line (paraphrased, the best i could do from memory), "We came in with our rifles, backpacks, and our ideals, we left with our rifles and backpacks."

They had free food at the student union today for some reason so this day is starting off pretty good i figure.

More Snyder

"The Secret of Machines"

But remember, please, the law
by which we live,
We are not built to
comprehend a lie
We can neither love nor pity
nor forgive
If you make a slip in handling
us you Die!

R. Kipling

This was the first half an hour of systesm on wednesday, not enligh class, systems. Nobdy really complained but it is funny sometimes.

I'm Sick

Well i kept waking up last night, starting at about 3 in the morning and i kept dreaming i was just ramdombly, brutally, violently killing people, and every time i went back to sleep i would just pick up where i left off, and after two or three rounds i just felt sick to my stomach of seeing it all (kind of like in clockwork orange, well a little bit at least) so i got up to go the bathroom, figured maybe that was the problem, then i spent the next half hour puking up all the great food i had had the night before at the food tasting thing that dad let me go to. I don't think it is food posioning because ryan isn't sick and we had the same stuff but i don't know. Anyway i stayed at home all day and slept. If feel like i am getting better but i really hate throwing up, just thinking about food makes my stomach turn over, and i haven't done any of my homework.

I am just working on my western traditions essay, this one is better than the last one, and i have most of it done and it isn't due till tuesday, but it still sucks. Hopefully i can go hiking this weekend.

Nothing

Dr. Snyder quote of the day

"(Using the computer program Matlab) is like picking up snot with two fingers"

we aren't really sure what he meant, but it was funny, also "DARE TO BE BOLD"

you will find yourself writing that in random places, it seems like it is from the dead poets society movie or something, but it is very true.

Ryan and i almost missed drug testing this morning, we got there with only one guy left in the waiting room, that would have sucked.

It snowed an inch or two this evening, it was rather lovely out, sucks that i have to be inside, working on homework.

And pete is right, music will never let you down, say your aren't good enough, or leave you.

MIT

I was asking Dr. Snyder about his undergraduate experience at MIT, his comment: "i wouldn't wish that place upon my worst enemy." Sucks for pete.
